Abstract

Herbicides for weed control in transplanted rice.

Abstract

In the 1983 kharif [monsoon] season thiobencarb, butachlor, oxyfluorfen, anilofos, oxadiazon or pendimethalin applied to rice plots 2 days after transplanting were compared with hand weeding 20 and 40 days after transplanting, and with an unweeded control. Hand weeding, 1.75 or 2 kg thiobencarb, 1.75 kg pendimethalin or 1 kg butachlor/ha reduced weed DW at harvest from 58.2 to 0.2 g/m2. Highest yields were 5.8 and 5.7 t grain/ha with 2 kg thiobencarb and 1.25 kg butachlor, resp. Weeds reduced rice plant height, straw yield and fertile tiller number.
