Abstract

Distribution of tetraploids of Paspalum distichum L. ('Chikugo-suzumenohie') in irrigation reservoirs in the east Harima area, Hyogo Prefecture, southwestern Japan - comparison with three aquatic grasses with a similar ecological niche.

Abstract

The distributions of tetraploid P. distichum, hexaploid P. distichum, Leersia japonica and Pseudoraphis ukishiba in E. Harima were investigated. L. japonica and P. ukishiba were widely distributed but the 2 P. distichum forms were restricted to the S. of the area and occurred mainly in eutrophic reservoirs in the plains. Occurrence of tetraploid P. distichum was usually associated with recent disturbance of the reservoir bank.
