Abstract

The species and abundance of thrips (Thysanoptera) in lucerne stands in southern Moravia.

Abstract

In 1981-82, the species composition and abundance of Thysanoptera were examined in lucerne stands in southern Moravia, Czechoslovakia. A total of 14 565 specimens belonging to 18 species was collected, of which Odontothrips confusus was dominant (56.1%), followed by Frankliniella intonsa (13.9%), Thrips flavus (13.3%), the predacious Aeolothrips intermedius (11.1%) and T. tabaci (2.7%). The first adults of O. confusus appeared in early June and the first larvae in early July. The largest numbers of this species were recorded when the crop was in full bloom or in the final stages of flowering (10-20 July 1981 and 1-10 July 1982).
