Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Insects and other invertebrates found in plant material imported into England and Wales, 1983.

Abstract

Records are presented of insects and other invertebrates found primarily during check inspections of imported plant material by the Plant Health & Seeds Inspectorate of the United Kingdom Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food in 1983. The many records are grouped in sections on invertebrates listed alphabetically (by scientific names); invertebrates listed systematically; plant, plant produce or other import with which the invertebrate was associated; and country of origin. Insects of particular interest that are dealt with in some detail include Leptinotarsa decemlineata, Liriomyza trifolii, Phthorimaea operculella, Helicoverpa armigera [Heliothis armigera], Daktulosphaira vitifoliae [Viteus vitifoliae], and (on ginger root imported from Brazil) Opogona sacchari.
