Abstract

Some data on the parasites and commensals of pelecypod molluscs in the Peter-the-Great Bay.

Abstract

Forty species of parasites (including helminths) and commensals were found in 32 species of Pelecypoda from the Peter-the-Great Bay, USSR, examined in the summer of 1980. Monhysteridae and gymnophallid metacercariae are listed among the inhabitants of the mantle cavity. Notably, as many as 5 different species of Gymnophallidae were often found in Mactra chinensis. Meiogymnophallus minutus, Gymnophallus megalocoela, Podocotyle sp., Fellodistomatidae and Himasthla were found in the internal organs of Ruditapes philippinarum but were apparently non-pathogenic. Cercaria tapidis and C. pectinata were pathogenic causing castration in R. phillipinarum.
