Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

The fungus Beauveria bassiana (Deuteromycotina: Hyphomycetaceae) in the western balsam bark beetle, Dryocoetes confusus (Coleoptera: Scolytidae).

Abstract

The natural occurrence of Beauveria infection in Dryocoetes confusus on subalpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa) in British Columbia is reported, and the pathogenicity of B. bassiana isolated from D. confusus was confirmed experimentally. Observations on newly established pairs of adults of D. confusus in glass-phloem sandwich cultures showed that cadavers of females killed by B. bassiana were walled off with frass by healthy males.
