Abstract

Romanomermis nielseni (Nematoda, Mermithidae) in the USSR and mermithid parasites of mosquitoes (Culicidae).

Abstract

The mermithid nematode Romanomermis nielseni, previously known from North America, was recorded for the first time in the USSR from larvae of Aedes flavescens (Müll.), A. cinereus Mg., A. cataphylla Dyar, A. punctor (Kby.), A. cantans (Mg.) and A. communis (Deg.) collected in the Ukrainian SSR in 1982, and is redescribed. Taxonomic notes are given on 20 mermithid parasites of mosquitoes, and a key is given to the genera of mermithids that parasitize mosquitoes.
