The bacterial symbiote of the olive fruit fly (Dacus oleae). [Abstract].
A bacterial symbiont is closely associated with all developmental stages of the olive pest Dacus oleae (Gmel.). A mixed culture with Pseudomonas savastanoi, the causative agent of olive knot disease, as the predominant organism, was believed to be responsible for this symbiosis. The symbiont from adult flies was proved not to be identical with P. savastanoi, which differed from it in growth rate, temperature range, colony form and motility.
