Abstract

Heterocera Sumatrana. Volume 3. The Phycitinae of Sumatra (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae).

Abstract

This further volume in a series on the Heterocera of Sumatra, Indonesia, contains information on about 190 species of phycitine pyralids in over 80 genera. Accounts are included of the ecology and economic importance of the Phycitinae there, it being reported that 2 species are known as forest pests, 3 as field pests, 6 as household and stored-product pests and 1 as a pest in the field and stored products. Of 31 potential pests, 3 might infest households and stored products. About 12 new species and several new genera are described. The main part of the publication is devoted to a systematic account of the species, including information on their type localities, range, distribution in Sumatra and (in German and English) distinguishing characters, larval food-plants (where known) and pest status (where relevant). The adults are illustrated in colour, and many taxonomic features, including those of the genitalia, are also shown.
