Abstract

A key to the 42 species of opiine Braconidae that have been collected in programmes for the biological control of the fruit pests Ceratitis capitata (Wied.), Dacus dorsalis Hend., D. cucurbitae Coq., D. oleae (Gmel.), D. tryoni (Frogg.) and D. passiflorae Frogg. is provided. Host-parasite lists are given, relating not only to these 6 tephritids but also to many others that are hosts to their parasites. Notes are provided on the distribution and hosts of each of the parasites, together with discussions on their diagnostic features and present nomenclatural status where appropriate. Opius arisanus Sonan is transferred to Biosteres, B. oophilus (Fullaway) is regarded as a synonym of B. arisanus, and O. watersi Fullaway is regarded as a synonym of B. dacusii (Cam.).
