Abstract

Contributions to the knowledge of aphids of conifers. IV. Notes on some species of adelgids found in Italy (Homoptera Adelgidae).

Abstract

Notes are given on the geographical distribution and ecology of 13 species of Adelgidae infesting conifers in Italy, from records obtained from the Alps to southern Italy over the past 10 years. Pineus orientalis (Dreyf.) on Picea orientalis, Pineus cembrae (Kholodk.) on Pinus cembra, Adelges viridanus (Kholodk.) (Cholodkovskya viridana) on Larix kaempferi (leptolepis) and Gilletteella cooleyi (Gill.) on Picea sitchensis were recorded for the 1st time in Italy. Some of the commonest species were Pineus pini (Gmel.), A. laricis Vall., Sacchiphantes viridis (Ratz.) and S. abietis (L.), which were injurious to young trees in nurseries, new plantations, parks or gardens in several parts of Italy.
