Abstract

Malaysia - eriophyid and tarsonemid mites on coconut.

Abstract

The mites Colomerus novahebridensis Keifer and Steneotarsonemus furcatus DeLeon were found in association under the calyxes of nuts on coconut palms in West Malaysia in 1980. Infestation caused banding and scarring on the nuts; the cultivar West African Tall was apparently more susceptible than other cultivars. Both mites are recorded from the country for the first time.
