In this monograph on insect pests of forest trees and forest products in the USSR, the author begins with a general introductory section followed by notes on the damage caused by and morphology of the most important forest pests, listed according to family (Scolytidae, Platypodidae, Buprestidae, Cerambycidae, Lymexylonidae, Bostrichidae, Melandryidae, Siricidae, Xiphydriidae, Formicidae, Xylocopidae, Agromyzidae, Cecidomyiidae, Cossidae and Aegeriidae), and a section on their control. The insects damaging timber structures, furniture and museum exhibits are treated separately; these belong to the Anobiidae, Lyctidae, Cerambycidae and Curculionidae. The book is intended as a practical guide for those concerned with forest protection, timber preservation, the manufacture of timber products, etc., as well as for teachers and students. The most important pests and the damage caused by them are illustrated.
