Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

A synopsis of Hawaiian Xyleborini (Coleoptera: Scolytidae).

Abstract

A synopsis of the 28 species of Xyleborini known from the Hawaiian islands is presented, with keys to the species of each genus, illustrations, and notes on synonymy, distribution within Hawaii, and food-plants where known, including some economic timber trees and a few fruit trees such as mango. Of the 24 species of Xyleborus that are recognised, 18 are considered to be endemic to the region and 6 adventive; 5 are described as new, 11 have lectotypes designated, and new males are described for 7 species that were hitherto known only from the females. The other species of Xyleborini comprise 1 adventive species of Xyleborinus and 3 of Xylosandrus, 1 of which may not have become established. A checklist of all Hawaiian species mentioned is appended.
