Abstract

An annotated list is presented of 42 species of insects that are injurious to cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) in the State of Para, Brazil; the information is based on surveys carried out in the vicinity of Belem and Braganca. Of the species listed, only Cerotoma arcuata (Ol.) (Andrector arcuatus), Spodoptera eridania (Cram.) and S. latifascia (Wlk.) are serious pests of the standing crop. The stored seeds are damaged by Callosobruchus analis (F.), Bruchidius atrolineatus (Pic) and Acanthoscelides clandestinus (Motsch.).<new para>ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:<new para>A list is presented of 42 species of insects collected during a survey of the pests of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) in the State of Para, Brazil. In the field, the main injurious species were aphids, Cerotoma arcuata (Ol.) (Andrector arcuatus), Spodoptera eridania (Cram.) and S. latifascia (Wlk.). The main pests of the stored cowpeas were Callosobruchus analis (F.), Bruchidius atrolineatus (Pic) and a species referred to by the authors as Acanthoscelides clandestinus (Motsch.).
