Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Survival of Lissorhoptrus brevirostris (Suffr.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) on different food-plants in the rice-growing region of southern Sancti Spiritus, Cuba.

Abstract

Surveys in rice-growing areas of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, in 1976-77 showed that the rice pest Lissorhoptrus brevirostris (Suffr.) was also developing on several species of Poaceae, mainly Paspalum distichum, Panicum muticum, Hymenachne donacifolia, Leersia hexandra, Echinochloa crus-galli and E. colonum. In the laboratory, the beetle was able to complete its life-cycle on E. colonum, E. crus-galli, Leptochloa fascicularis, L. virgata, H. donacifolia, Leersia hexandra, Cyperus iria and C. esculentus. A list is presented of 28 plant species on which some or all the stages of Lissorhoptrus brevirostris can develop.
