Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Survey of vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhiza in some Amazonian crops.

Abstract

Natural mycorrhizal infections were investigated in some crops of the Amazon region: guarana (Paulinia cupana), black pepper (Piper nigrum), mallow (Urena lobata) and jute (Corchorus capsularis). All species were infected by VA mycorrhizae, but different species showed different degrees of infection and numbers of spores. The predominant spores were Acaulospora indicating their tolerance of high temperature and acidity typical of Amazonian soils.
