Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Fungus diseases of tropical crops.

Abstract

This comprehensive sourcebook is the first for very many years to give a wide and detailed account that is fully supported by references (>9000) to the literature of plant pathology and fungus taxonomy. The diseases discussed also include many of those plant crops grown in the sub-tropics, of vegetables grown worldwide and some of conifers. The diseases caused by 318 pathogens (in 164 genera) are succinctly described and a further 600 fungi are treated more briefly. The main pathogens, with full morphology and synonyms, and introduced by a generic description, are arranged alphabetically. Factors relevant to the diseases in the field are given more cover than other aspects; and notes on the more recent control measures are included. There are taxonomic comments and the treatment of this aspect is on the lines followed at CMI. An appendix lists the scientific (alphabetically) and common names of crop plants with their pathogens and common names of diseases. There are separate lists of crop and disease common names. Indexes to fungi (accepted names and synonyms) and other organisms are included.
