Abstract

Potential utilization of bacterial-wilt resistant Solanum species as rootstock for commercial eggplant production.

Abstract

In field trials at a site infested with bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum), Solanum toxicarium rootstocks showed the highest resistance, followed by S. torvum and S. integrifolium (a standard Japanese rootstock). Scions on S. torvum rootstocks were more vigorous and had greater yields than those on S. integrifolium but S. toxicarium rootstocks resulted in rather poor fruit quality and yield.
