Abstract

Performance of eastern white pine from the southern Appalachians in eastern United States, New Zealand and Australia.

Abstract

During 1964-66, 177 seedlots were collected from 49 stands located in eight states within the southern Appalachian mountains, and planted at 15 sites in six eastern or mideastern states of the USA, and in New Zealand and Australia. Height measurements performed seven and eleven years after planting revealed that, at each site, trees from Georgia, parts of North Carolina and Tennessee grew most rapidly and trees from Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland grew most slowly.
