Abstract

Rapid growth of Appalachian white pine in southern Michigan.

Abstract

Seed of Pinus strobus, collected from 49 stands, was sown in 1966, the seedlings being grown in four test plantations. In the three southernmost plantations, trees grown from seed collected in a zone extending northeast from northern Georgia along the Tennessee-North Carolina border grew fastest, from age seven to nine, growing 10-20% taller than most trees from Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
