Abstract

Alternative hosts of okra mosaic virus near plantings of okra in southern Ivory Coast.

Abstract

Virus symptoms were observed on Corchorus olitorius, Hibiscus sabdariffa, Urena lobata, Borreria intricans and Blighia welwitschii in fields of H. esculentus. Symptoms, insect transmission, host range, electron microscopy and serological tests showed H. esculentus mosaic virus to be the cause of the diseases. The role of these hosts as reservoirs of the virus is discussed.
