Studies on some avian hematozoa from Orissa, India.
During June and July of 1973 and 1974, 118 birds of 30 species in Orissa, India, were examined for blood parasites. 15 birds (12.7%) of 10 species were infected; only Haemoproteus and Plasmodium spp. were found. None of the species has been previously reported from this region and H. fallisi (in one of 2 Copsychus saularis), H. passeris (in one of 3 Passer domesticus), H. sacharovi (in one of 10 Streptopelia chinensis) and Plasmodium (Novyella) vaughani (in 2 of 5 Ploceus philippinus) are reported for the first time from India.
