Parasites of passeriform birds in the province of Cordoba.

Abstract

An examination was made of 269 passeriform birds of 20 species in Cordoba Province, Spain. The helminths found were Morishitium dollfusi, a species of Hymenolepidinae (possibly Hymenolepis sp.), Haploparaxis dujardini, Raillietina sartica, Anonchotaenia globata, Choanotaenia musculosa, Anomotaenia constricta, A. depressa, Dilepis undula, Diplotriaena henry, D. monticelliana, Carinema campanae and Prosthorhynchus cylindraceum. Some of these are reported for the first time in Spain.<new para>ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT:<new para>During a survey in Spain of Passeriformes, including several species of caged birds, the parasites found included 5 species of arthropods. Among them were Pterophagus strictus Megn., found on house sparrows (Passer domesticus), and Sternostoma tracheacolum Lawrence, found on canaries (Serinus canarius) and occasionally on house sparrows.
