Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Piru [Schinus molle], a species of the upper forest edge, and its use in building construction.

Abstract

A note by Ortega Estrada on the suitability of withies of Piru [S. molle] a high-altitude S. American woody species also found at the upper forest limit in parts of Mexico, in place of wire netting as reinforcement for concrete for use in simple buildings, followed by a note in which the practicability of this technique is challenged by Schavesande. [The argument, continued in subsequent correspondence - cf. Mensajero Forestal 1975 34 (356) and 1976 34 (359) - remains unresolved.]
