Abstract

Trunk pests of turanga in Turkmenia.

Abstract

In Turkmenia, USSR, Populus diversifolia (turanga) is attacked by the larvae of 11 species of trunk-boring Coleoptera, of which 6 are here recorded for the first time. Observations on them were made in 1970-73, and notes are given on their habits, which are summarised in a table. The most injurious were Aeolesthes sarta (Solsky), Xylotrechus namanganensis Heyden, Tropideres sp., and Capnodis miliaris metallica Ballion, which attacked healthy trees. Following infestation of the trunks by these, the other species also became established.
