Role of Phytophthora palmivora in bud rot of coconut.
P. palmivora produced a dry rot before the development of symptoms associated with other organisms, such as Fusarium sp. and bacteria. The production of oospores in infected tissues suggested survival of the pathogen in the heart (cabbage) or affected palms. An infection cycle could be completed in about a week by the pathogen under favourable conditions. Pathogenicity tests of isolates of P. palmivora from different hosts on coconut cvs and hybrids suggested no distinct variation among isolates.
