Abstract

Influence of weather factors on the population of the castor Aleyrodid Trialeurodes rara Singh.

Abstract

Field tests were carried out at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, from January 1963 to January 1964 on the effect of weather factors such as maximum and minimum temperatures, humidity and rainfall on populations of eggs, larvae, pupae and adults of Trialeurodes rara Singh on a perennial type (variety OSS 23/61) of castor (Ricinus communis) known to be susceptible to Aleyrodid attack. The pest was very low in numbers or absent during the period from November to mid-February and gradually increased thereafter. There was a positive relation between population size and maximum temperature.
