Invasive Species Compendium

Detailed coverage of invasive species threatening livelihoods and the environment worldwide

Abstract

Some Philippine armored scale insects of the tribe Aspidiotini (Diaspididae, Homoptera).

Abstract

In this review of the Aspidiotine scale insects of the Philippines, descriptions are given of the adult females of 16 species belonging to the genera Aspidiotus, Hemiberlesia (which is used in a very broad sense), Aonidiella and Chrysomphalus. Three species, Aonidiella citrina (Coq.), A. taxus Leon. and Abgrallaspis (Hemiberlesia) cyanophylli (Sign.) are new records for the territory, and a new species, Aspidiotus philippinensis sp.n., is described from females taken on the leaves of Pandanus tectorius. The taxonomic history and the morphological characters of the tribe are discussed, and keys are given to the genera and species. A food-plant list and an index of the local species of Aspidiotini are included.
