Abstract

New records of parasites of Heliothis armigera (Hbn.) and Heliothis peltigera Schiff. from Gujarat.

Abstract

In the Indian State of Gujarat, Heliothis armigera (Hb.) is a serious pest of gram [Cicer arietinum], tomato, tur [Cajanus cajan], tobacco, lucerne and other leguminous crops, while H. peltigera (Schiff.) attacks weeds such as Eclipta erecta (alba), Triumfetta pilosa and Acanthospermum hispidum. When eggs and larvae of the Noctuids collected from the field between October 1963 and July 1965 were reared in the laboratory, adults of Carcelia illota (Curr.), Goniophthalmus halli Mesnil and Campoletis flavicincta (Ashm.) (Ecphoropsis perdistinctus (Vier.)) emerged from larvae of H. armigera, and those of Chelonus heliopae Gupta, Pristomerus sp. and Carcelia sp. from larvae of H. peltigera. This is the first record of these parasites attacking the two Noctuids.
