Abstract

Studies on the varietal incidence of the mango nut weevil, Sternochetus mangiferae Fabricius.

Abstract

In 3 years' studies involving 37 mango varieties and hybrids the incidence of mango nut weevil varied between 28% in Jehangir to 100% in Bangalora and Neelum. In hybrids with Jehangir the incidence of the weevil was low only when this variety was the female parent. Fruits with a thick, tough and warty skin were the least susceptible but the incidence of the pest was neither related to other fruit characteristics nor to season, locality or rainfall.-Agric. Coll.
