Abstract

Mycobacterium paratuberculosis in reproductive organs and semen of bulls.

Abstract

The genital organs of six bulls, all with clinical signs of Johne's disease, and semen from one were examined. M. paratuberculosis was found in the prostate of 3, the bulbo-urethral gland of 2, the seminal vesicles of all 6, as well as in the semen sample, but not in the testes. The organism survived procedures similar to the antibiotic treatment and freezing that are used commercially to process bull semen.
