Abstract

Apparent heterokaryosis in Alternaria dauci.

Abstract

Pathogenic auxotrophs deficient in thiamine were frequently isolated from naturally infected carrot leaves and were unable to grow on minimal media after 6 generations of single-spore subcultures. The behaviour of hyphae from germinating conidia indicated that the conidia are homokaryotic. When prototrophic and auxotrophic isolates were cultured together, heterokaryotic hyphae were obtained. Colonies from these produced conidia segregating into the parental types.
