Ustilaginales of India.
AbstractThis book presents a taxonomic treatment of the smuts of India and Pakistan [cf. preceding abstract]. It brings together the data resulting from study of many new collections and re-study of most of the older specimens [cf. R.A.M., 19, p. 237 et seq.]. Descriptions are provided for 205 species and four varieties, classified in 21 genera. This is an increase of more than 100 species for India since 1930 [ibid., I1, p. 545]. Citation and synonymy are given for each genus and species, and 148 species are provided with figures. No new species is described, but one new combination is proposed. The hosts and localities known in India and Pakistan are given and a host index is appended.
The book is an important contribution to the knowledge of the Ustilaginales; it is the first to deal with a large area in Asia, an area extending into the tropics.
