Study on the formation of floating islands in the Inle Lake from botanical point of view.

Abstract

A survey on the formation of floating islands and floating water gardens of Inle Lake, both in use and non-use, conducted from the botanical point of view, is presented. Six species of plants that are said to be the pioneers for the formation of floating inlands were analysed through their general morphology and anatomy of the submerged plant parts. The chemical compositions of wild floating islands and floating water gardens, both in use and non-use, were also analysed with the aid of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer.
