Current status and threats to the survival of wild tigers in Myanmar.

Abstract

Out of eight sub-species recorded in the world, three had already extinct. Out of the remaining five, Myanmar has two sub-species viz. Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) and Indochinese tiger (Panthera tigris corbett). In the paper identification of these are given. The abundance of the two sub-species before the Second World War and Post War period, the cause of reduction in number, the present count density per 100 sq km and the threats concerning declination in number are given.
