Abstract

Data are tabulated on climatic factors, diameter and volume increments, costs per hectare, yield and irrigation schedules for trial plots of Populus 'I-214' growing in the Po valley, N. Italy. The plots were already established in 1963, and data for 1967-77 are compared with data for 1978-88....

Abstract

Results from 1967-77 experiments on the cost and effects of irrigation on poplar [Populus sp.] are re-examined using 1989 prices. Production costs in 1989 for a 6×5 m spacing with 2 irrigations each of 1200 m3 water/ha were double those of 1979, whereas revenue had only increased by about 60%.
