Abstract

Growth ring widths of roots of windthrown oaks (Quercus robur, Q. petraea), beech (Fagus sylvatica), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and spruce (Picea abies) trees were measured, and data for the period since 1900 are discussed in relation to soil moisture and climatic data.

Abstract

This paper describes a new dendrochronological classification system for oaks (Quercus) and pines (Pinus sylvestris) using intraannual wood anatomical features such as growth ring positions, latewood and earlywood characteristics, pores, vessels and calluses.
