Abstract

When scions from the cv. Hass from a range of sources were compared, most proved identical. But 3 scions were less productive than average, although 1 produced larger fruits. The possibility of using this scion in breeding for improved fruit size is discussed.

Abstract

Presents a summary of a thesis on the water relations of two provenances of E. camaldulensis, viz. a local population known to originate from the cooler and wetter parts of S. Australia, and another from a hot, arid, inland area at Broken Hill, NSW. Studies were conducted both with potted plants...

Abstract

Seasonal and daily variations of water deficits were determined by measuring xylem water potentials and water saturation deficits in 23-year-old trees of C. sempervirens, 14 m high and 59 cm in g.b.h., C. atlantica, 12.3 m high and 70 cm in g.b.h. and P. halepensis, 13.2 m high and 67 cm in g.b.h., ...

Abstract

Three experiments dealing with avocado cv. Fuerte grafted on selected Mexican clonal rootstocks, and planted at Horshim (in Israel) are presented. One source of scion, Taiebe 4707, was a better producer than the others. Another scion was a very poor producer, and produced 54% of the yield of the...

Abstract

Evidence is presented supporting the spontaneous occurrence of T. aphylla in Israel and Sinai. Summer production of low-viability seed restricts establishment to areas with available water: in the Negev (S. Israel) and Sinai, this includes large wadis which drain areas of extreme desert. In these...

Abstract

Autumn fertilization of avocado cv. Hass trees at Kibbutz Nir-Eliahu with N and P for 8 years increased mean yield by 50%. The increase in yield was accompanied by increased root mass and activity in the spring, as monitored by increased white root tip density. The roots of NP-treated trees had...

Abstract

A survey of liman plantations in the Negev, irrigated by run-off water from adjacent catchment areas, showed the need to determine the amount of run-off, the intensity, amount and distribution of rainfall, the depth of wetting of the soil that is required, and soil moisture depletion patterns in a...
