A description is given of the replacement rafters for the historical Wingspread building near Racine, WI, which were designed using triaxial carbon fabric reinforced plastic (CRP) reinforced laminated veneer lumber to resist tensile loads in the longitudinal direction of the rafters.
Strength and stiffness results are presented from tensile and compression tests on various visually graded lamination grades of Douglas fir [Pseudotsuga menziesii] and Ponderosa pine [Pinus ponderosa].
A 3-dimensional finite element model, incorporating the mechano-sorptive effect, was developed to account for the effect of critical parameters affecting the bonding integrity of straight glued-laminated Chengal (Neobalanocarpus heimii) timber members in service.
The biaxial stress state is 2-dimensional and includes tension-tension, compression-compression, tension-compression and compression-tension. For this kind of testing a cruciform specimen is used.
The performance of stress laminated bridges is contingent upon maintaining a minimum level of prestress across the laminates. Losses in prestress, however, do occur over time as a result of creep in the laminates. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the magnitude of creep displacements...
