This chapter discusses the optimal characteristics, efficacy and safety of rodenticides. The characteristics and use of acute rodenticides, as well as some of the commonly used acute and subacute rodenticides are described. The discovery, mode of action, use of first-generation and development of second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides are reviewed. The rodenticide formulations and regulatory initiatives are discussed.
