I joined CABI in March 2012 to work on the invasive species systematic review project and since then I have changed roles to become an Editor on the Invasive Species Compendium. I am responsible for commissioning and editing new datasheets and have mainly worked on the ‘Invasives Causing Extinction’ project. This project is of great interest to me and specifically focuses on the effects of invasive species on endangered or threatened species.
Prior to my time at CABI, I studied biology at the University of St Andrews and carried out an internship at Edinburgh Zoo, researching avian cognition and behaviour. I have also spent two months in Canada researching the behaviour of rufous hummingbirds in the Rocky Mountains and have volunteered for the RSPB and a number of other NGOs.
Invasive species are causing species extinction. We are trying to address this problem by providing sound scientific information that will be used by endangered species managers to improve their efforts to recover listed and candidate species affected by invasive species. The information will also be used by invasive species managers to control invasive species that are causing species extinction in the USA.
