I have worked for CABI Central and West Asia since 2014 as a Project Officer and Entomologist, and currently in the capacity of a Research Associate.
I have more than seven years research and teaching experience in well-reputed national and international organizations/institutes such as Engineering Concepts Pakistan (as Manager), Bahauddin Zakaryia University, Multan and The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur, Pakistan (as Assistant Professor).
I have undertaken five projects encompassing basic and applied research on ecology and biological control based management of insect pests associated with vegetables, fruit and field crops.
I, for the first time in Pakistan, developed an IPM layer model for the management of mango gall midges for which I received “Best Presenter Award” from an international panel of judges after presenting this research at the World Mango Conference 2014.
In Pakistan, many insect pest problems are being addressed through application of a new technology, Natural Enemy Field Reservoirs (NEFRs) in farmer fields by CABI Central and West Asia. As a Project Officer and Entomologist in CABI, I have been instrumental in development, application and dissemination of this NEFR technology for the management of insect pests in farmer communities through onsite farm research and trainings.
I have published 10 research papers on insect pest management in impact factor and have presented three abstracts in national and international conferences.
CABI’s centre in Pakistan coordinates our activities in Central and Western Asia. Small-scale farming here is widespread, employing a large percentage of the population in many areas. Agriculture contributes heavily towards the region’s economy and its development.
Small scale vegetable farmers in Pakistan encounter a number of issues that compromise their sustainable livelihoods; particularly for women and youth. Through the project, an alliance of selected organisations is aiming to improve the livelihoods of rural communities in Sindh and Punjab through strengthening selected horticultural value chains, and promoting sustainable production and marketing opportunities.
