I joined CABI in 1992. Prior to becoming a Centre Project Manager I worked on biocontrol projects, using parasitoids and entomopathogens to control pest insects of ornamentals and commodities.
In my present role I manage the budget sheet containing all information on the Centre’s projects, working with Project Managers and assisting the RD with anything related to this. I am also the Centre contact for the PBD, CRM and monthly pipeline to the Corporate Projects Manager. Though this is a significant part of my job I am still involved with biocontrol research and am working on BIOCAT for the Chief Scientist.
Scientists at our centre in Egham carry out scientific research, international development projects and microbial services. Over the years its work has supported hundreds of projects and reached thousands of farmers in countries across the world.
Farmers face issues with insect pests that damage their crops. In Africa, cold storage facilities necessary for some biopesticides aren’t always available. As experts in this and crop management, we are working with Asymptote Ltd, a UK technology company, to develop an appropriate product for rural conditions in Africa, meaning African farmers will no longer have to rely on harmful chemical pesticides to protect their crops.
