Chapter 3 (Page no: 19)

How to choose a test.

In this chapter the author discussed pointers to consider in selecting the most appropriate behavioural test in animal, among these tips is to answer the question why do we have to use behavioural tests at all? and what is the purpose of putting an animal in a situation that will always be somewhat artificial, no matter how hard we try to create test environments suitable for the species in question. Samples of research area such as anxiety and depression and the type of behavioural test (open field test, locomotor activity/rearing, forced swim test, and tail suspension test) and some examples of equipments used in behavioral test such as open field arena, camera, elevated plus maze, black and white box, cylindrical glass beaker, and stcky tapes were highligted in this chapter.
