Asking animals an introduction to animal behaviour testing.

Book cover for Asking animals an introduction to animal behaviour testing.

Description

This book will give an introduction to the use (and perhaps misuse) of behaviour tests applied to animals. Through illustrative examples from a variety of species, the aim is to inspire the animal experimenter to think about what a given behavioural test can be used for and how the results can be interpreted. It is not meant as a dictionary or list of tests from which a researcher can choose, but ...

Chapter 2 (Page no: 7)

Non-test observations.

This chapter presents different examples of animal behavioural studies done in a housed setting, emphasizing the non-test situation and what we can learn from this for use in behavioural tests. Some of the behaviour which were highlighted are locomotion activity (chicks) and feeding behaviour (goats). A Time Budgets and Behavioural Development Over Time theory was also presented to help explain how normal behavior of animals in its environment can served to detect abnormalities, such as leg and hoof problems in cattle and other housed farm animals.
