Chapter 9 (Page no: 121)

Yam mosaic.

This chapter describes the disease symptopms, distribution, economic impact, taxonomy, host range, transmission, detection methods (serological and nucleic acid-based assays), and management strategies of Yam mosaic virus (YMV). It is indicated that the successful management of yam mosaic disease, and possibly replacement of YMV infected planting stock, will result in greater yam yield, which is a desired outcome for the teeming population of Africa, where food security issues and high food prices remain a huge concern. Future perspectives are also mentioned.
