Dogs in the leisure experience.

Book cover for Dogs in the leisure experience.

Description

This book explores the social and cultural constructions and debates of what are dogs and what is leisure. It looks at how working dogs play a significant role in leisure experiences, and considers the differing roles and changing acceptance of dogs' involvement in sport. Within the setting of the animal welfare and sentience debates, it examines the leisure needs of dogs and their owners. The chapters cover: working dogs; sport dogs; leisured dogs and dogs as leisure objects; providing for the leisured dog and dog as leisure object; boarding kennels and dog day-care centres; dogs as cuisine; and dog cuisine. The book has nine chapters and a subject index.
