Financial and economic aspects.

It is critical that cattle producers think about the cost vs benefits of various management practices and decisions, and that they have the proper measurements to make these assessments. Emphasis on total profitability as opposed to only production output traits (or only inputs) will usually provide for a more balanced and sustainable management approach. Understanding the concepts and measurements of variation provides the potential for more precise management and marketing decisions and the basis of understanding production risk. In all regions, access to markets and current market prices are important for both short-term and long-term decisions. The ability to coordinate types of cattle with environmental conditions and appropriate market options is the foundation for profitable beef cattle production in most regions of the world.
