CABI Book Chapter

Linear models for the prediction of animal breeding values.

Book cover for Linear models for the prediction of animal breeding values.

Description

This book contains 17 chapters that describe the use of statistical analyses and models to estimate, analyse and compare the genetic parameters, breeding value and performance traits of livestock. Each chapter contains the theories and actual application of the concepts. The book has been compiled from various publications and experience in the subject area and from involvement in several national...

Chapter 3 (Page no: 34)

Best linear unbiased prediction of breeding value: univariate models with one random effect.

In this chapter, best linear unbiased prediction's (BLUP) theoretical background is briefly presented, considering a univariate animal model, and its application to several univariate models in genetic evaluation is illustrated. Constructing the mixed model equations, progeny (daughter) yield deviation and accuracy of evaluations are also discussed.
